Hit – Tells the dealer to deal another card.
Stand – Tells the dealer you don’t want any more cards.
Bust – When your cards total more than 21, resulting in losing the hand.
Split – When you receive two of the same value cards, you can split them into two separate hands.
Double Down – When you have an edge over the dealer in a given hand, you can double your bet to potentially win more.
Insurance – When the dealer has a chance of hitting a blackjack, you can place an insurance bet to protect your money.
Even Money – When you receive same winnings as your bet amount, (1:1).
Soft Values – When you or the dealer hold an ace and a card with a value less than ten.
Rules of the Game
Similar to Baccarat, Blackjack is a casino card game, played against a dealer, which represents the house. In some games, there can be as many as 8 card decks in the card shoe. If it’s your first time playing, try finding a table with a single deck of cards. Basic strategy is based on single deck blackjack and it can be applied to other game variations.
You get two cards face up. Dealers receive two cards with only one card facing upwards. Cards from 2-9 have their equal face values while all tens and picture cards have a value of ten. Aces are the only cards that can represent two different values, one or eleven.
The objective of the game is to get as close as possible to 21. Blackjack is achieved when a “ten value” card meets an ace. When you have Blackjack, you can’t lose. If the dealer can also hit blackjack then you’ll be offered even money. If a dealer can’t get Blackjack, then you get paid out at odds of 3:2. The second highest hand is 21, which can be made up of a combination of 3 cards or more. If you go over 21 then you go “bust”. If the dealer busts then all the active players win. Dealers cannot take any more cards if they have a hard 17 or soft 17.
Playing Conditions
In an ideal situation, it’s just you versus the dealer, and there is only a single deck of cards. Advanced strategies, such as card counting, take additional factors into consideration. Live Casino games let you apply advanced strategies. At land based casinos, it’s generally hard to find an open table, unless you’re a high roller, sitting at a VIP table. However, most of the online blackjack sites games are just you against the dealer.
During each hand, psychology and gambling itches, can play a big role in decision making. We’re not programmed like robots, so we are sometimes faced with tough decisions. To try and reduce the human factor, we recommend following the chart on our blackjack strategy page, and act accordingly. Overtime, you will see that the chart will increase your winnings at the casinos.
Different Blackjack Sites Games
There are many different variations to the classic game. In some games, the dealer can take another card if they have a soft 17. In other games where there are a small amount of decks, hitting a Blackjack, pays out at 6:5. Additional playing options include a dealer only drawing a second card after all hands have been played. In circumstances like this, we should stick to the chart but adjust our decision. Online casinos also add bonus features to their games to add further entertainment.
For example: we’re holding 12 versus a dealer’s 7. If we assume a Ten is coming, then by taking another card we’ll go BUST. If we bust out the hand is over and a new round starts. So sometimes it’s better to take a chance and hope the dealer will get a card lower than ten which forces him to take another card. This is not a bulletproof strategy, so feel free to do it your way.
Another cool option is multi-hand play and playing from behind. Multi-hand allows you to play multiple hands at once. So if you think you’ve mastered your strategy, then you can increase your winnings per hour, by playing more hands. Playing from behind is an option that allows you to bet on the same hand that another player is playing.
Blackjack Surrender
An added option to the classic game, is surrendering. If the dealer holds a potential strong hand to your inferior hand, you can elect to surrender. Half your bet is refunded to you when you surrender.
Double Exposure
In this game of blackjack, both the dealer’s cards are face up. Since this reduces the casino’s edge, payouts for Blackjack are even money. Additionally, there are no options for surrendering or buying insurance.
Pontoon
Blackjacks are “Naturals”in Pontoon. Since the dealer only has one card, players can draw to 21 and will win the hand if the dealer achieves a natural. Players can double their bet at any time, when holding 2-4 cards. If a player has 5 cards without going over 21, then he achieves a “5 card trick”. A “5 card trick” pays out at odds of 2:1.
Double Attack
Similar to Pontoon, in Double Exposure, the tens are removed from the decks and blackjack is payed out at 1:1. However, don’t let this discourage you. Large payouts are based on the cards that cause the dealer to bust:
- Face card – 3:1.
- A 9 – 6:1.
- An 8 – 8:1.
- A 7 – 10:1.
- A 6 – 15:1.
- Three 8’s of one color – 50:1.
- Three 8’s of one suit – 200:1.
- Insurance pays 1:5.
Perfect Pairs
A blackjack bonus game where players can place a side bet on their hole cards. If they receive a pair then the payout is as follows:
- Different colored suits – 5:1
- Same colored suit- 10:1
- Identical suit – 30:1
